Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkey opposes any sanctions without UN support

Ankara does not support sanctions that are imposed on various states unilaterally without UN support, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Wednesday.

Before his meeting in India with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Çavuşoğlu was asked how long he thought Turkey could resist imposing anti-Russian restrictions.

“We have no need to resist, we make our own decisions as a sovereign state. We do not join any unilateral sanctions, we support only those imposed with the support of the UN. So it’s not only about Russia, but we also do not support sanctions against Iran or any other countries,” said the Turkish Foreign Minister.

“We make our own decisions. No one can put pressure on us,” Çavuşoğlu added.
